The Base Oil that make the different

What is the most important thing in making lubricant products? That’s lube base oil. Lubricants are typically made up of lube base oil and additives to be added to promote performance for each use. As lubricants are used, the ingredients of additives are consumed. Therefore it is no exaggeration to say that the quality and performance of lubricants depend on lube base oil.

 

In this regard, S-OIL’s lubricant products have great advantages. S-OIL currently has a large-scale lube base oil manufacturing complex with the daily capacity of 42,700 barrels since it began the first commercial production of lube base oil in 1981 in Korea. Especially ULTRA-S which is a VHVI (Very High Viscosity Index, Group III) class base oil has been continuously used by the world’s leading lubricant manufacturers since its first production in 2002.

 

S-OIL SEVEN was developed using this ULTRA-S. Its performance such as a very high viscosity index, oxidation stability, and low temperature performance boosts customers’ confidence in S-OIL SEVEN.

The Technology Behind

What needs to be considered after securing a stable supply line of lube base oil is ‘formulation’ which is a mixing ratio for product development. Each lubricant product is developed base on the unique mixing ratio of ingredients and competitive lubricant developers are more knowledgeable about the development of an optimal mixing ratio.

 

S-OIL have acquired a lot of experience in lubricant development by supplying a wide range of products such as engine oil and gear oil to leading automakers including Hyundai-Kia Motors, GM Korea, Renault Samsung Motors, Ssangyong Motor, Toyota, Lexus, etc. for 25 years since its debut in the lubricant business. We also supply the passenger car gasoline/diesel engine oils for factory fill to Hyundai-Kia Motors and recently began supplying the high-quality eco-friendly commercial diesel engine oils that satisfy the Euro VI, a new emission limit, for factory fill to Hyundai-Kia Motors.

 

Moreover, S-OIL has kept its reputation as a leading oil refinery company as it was recognized for having technologies in various special products other than automotive engine oils by supplying special oils such as engine oils for construction equipment and hydraulic oils to diverse industrial sectors in Korea.

STLC

Despite a stable supply of lube base oil and a full understanding of formulation, without a sophisticated blending plant to perform the job, we couldn’t have provided top-tier lubricant products.

 

However S-OIL established S-OIL TOTAL Lubricants specialized in lubricants by forming a joint venture with French global oil maker TOTAL Raffinage Marketing S.A. and built a STLC Blending Plant. The STLC Blending Plant located near S-OIL’s plant boasts a large-scale production system with the daily and annual capacity of 2,500 Bbl and 150,000 ㎘, respectively, and displays its competitiveness across the entire process from raw material procurement to production to shipment based on a combination of S-OIL’s stable supply of lube base oil and TOTAL’s knowhow of production management.

 

Recently we are making diversified efforts to increase efficiency in production: for instance securing storage facilities, improving bulk-loading facilities, and upgrading the automated high-speed filling facilities for small package products. They serve as a global production base for S-OIL lubricants by realizing in-time manufacturing and smooth distribution.
